Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, MAY 13, 1922. TOWN HALL AND SUNDAY POLITICS.

DESPITE the fact that the Borough Council, at its last meeting,'on j he easting vote of the Mayor, turned down an application from the local lira noli of the N.Z. Labour Party for tlie use of the,Town Hall for a Sunday night political meeting, the Council’s action will meet with endorsement by a large majority of the local public. The Council’s refusal does not preclude-the Parly from securing a hall 'to meet (he convenience of their Parliamentary leader on the only day he can make if:'convenient to visit Foxlon in the near future. In other large centres Sunday night seems to be a favourite time for such political gatherings, but we have yet to learn that such meetings are permitted in buildings owned and controlled by municipalities. The reasons for such refusal are, or should be, selfevident. The Council would have taken up a similar attitude had application been made by any other political party.
