CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON,

Representatives of flaxmill owners, rope and twine manufacturers, and merchants interested in the trade, met officers of the Department of Agriculture in conference at Wellington on Thursday for the purpose of discussing various matters relating to the well-being of the hemp industry. Dr. C. J. Rentes, Director-General of Agriculture, presided, and the proceedings (says the Dominion) were conducted in camera. , The conference discussed at considerable length such questions as the responsibilities of the llaxmilIcrs, the requirements of manufacturers both here and oversea, and the necessity for an improvement of the present grading system. After certain decisions were reached on questions of principle, a small committee, comprising representatives of millers, merchants, manufacturers, and officers of the Department of Agriculture, was appointed to go into details and submit its re-port-to the department at an early 'date. ;
