FATAL ACCIDENT
AT DANNEVIRKE RAILWAY CROSSING. Dannevirke, Last Night. A collision occurred at the Allardice Street Railway crossing , between 5.30 and 0 p.m., between a' train and the motor lorry, which resulted in the death of a man named Jimmy O’Brien, presumed to be between 45 and 50 years of age. Deceased had one leg, the left one having been previously amputated above" the knee. The lorry was owned and driven by G. H. MacKay, butcher, of Te Rehunga, and was returning tp that place from Dannevirke when the mishap occurred. The driver did not see the train, which struck the lorry fore part, carrying it over the/cattlestop. JVlacKay was thrown on to the cow-catcher, carried fifty yards, and got off unhurt when the train stopped. O’Brien was thrown on to the rails and .dragged some distance. His head was much mutilated, and he was picked up dead. His relatives are unknown.
