Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1922. PARTY POLITICS AND MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS.
THERE were indications of political partisanship at last Council meeting which, if allowed to creep into municipal life, will make a veritable bear-garden of Council meetings. It should be remembered that Councillors are elected by the burgesses to ‘administer the affairs of the borough to the exclusion of political bias or prejudice, to discharge their duties as trustees of the borough funds conscientiously, having regard to economy without impairing efficiency and, above all, to consider the welfare of the borough as a whole. In some centres where party politics have been allowed to creep into municipal affairs, much unpleasantness lias been created and this should be avoided locally. A word to the wise should be sufficient.
