GAS WORKS.
FEBRUARY WO RKINC. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of February was 4fi5,600 ft., which with the amount in the holder on the Ist of February, 6,600 ft., made a total of 471,200 ft. The amount of gas sold to consumers for lighting was 377,900 ft., '22,500ft. were used in street lamps, and 27,000 ft; at the works. 'Hie amount of gas unaccounted for was '35,800ft. During the month 40 tons of coal was'carbonised yielding 11,231 c.ft. per ton, and producing 15 tons of coke. The earnings for the month totalled £316 15s 3d, and was made up as follows: — Gas Sales, lighting £ll6 9s 4d, heat and power £ll3 11s 7d, coke sales £34 16s 9d, tar sales
£1.3 11s Od, weighing 15s (Id, fittings £l7 17s 3d, services £1 14s (id, labour fittings £1 12s fid, miscellaneous £3 9s 2d a total of £.31(115s 3d. The expenditure for the month totalled £5lB 18s .3d, and was made up as follows: — Coal £IIG 12s 4d, salaries, wages and labour £74 3s sd, services £8 fis 3d, fittings £l7 19s (id, meter repairs £4B Is 7d, printing and advertising £9 Is 3d, engine oil and repairs £2l 18s fid, repairs retorts £3 os 1 fid, new retorts £l5O, general repairs £1 3s (id, tools fis Od, working expenses 9s Bd, sundries 19s fid, house sink £4 0s 7d, house age Is fid, interest and sinking fund insurance £2 2s Bd, freight and cart£s9 11s 8d; a total of £5lB 18s 3d.
Climbing down the ventilator shaft of the central heating apparatus, an Italian electrician named Demnrehi raided the Bank of France note-printing works at Clermont Ferrard,, seized two bundles of 50 franc notes (£1), each containing 1,000 notes, and got away. The works have been set up since the war and are not yet fully equipped with safeguards. The hank authorities have.cancelled the whole issue to which the stolen notes belong. None of them had been sent . out. Police seni’ch quickly led to Demnrehi’s arrest. .When he found he was being followed by detectives he threw the stolen notes down a cellar grating.
