ANZAC DAY.

TUESDAY’S SOLEMN OBSERVANCE. In common with all other towns throughout the Dominion, f oxton will fittingly celebrate Anzac Day on Tuesday ne.xt. A commemoration service will lie held in. the Town. Hall at 2 p.m., which will be conducted by the local ministers, the , singing will lie led by the combined' church choirs. The Mayor requests the attendance of all Returned Soldiers and the general public at the , service. • Owing to having previously consented to conduct a service at Rangiotu on Anzac afternoon, the Rev. Thos. Halliday will not be able to participate in the Foxton service. At the State School on Monday afternoon, the children will be assembled, arid-brief addresses appropriate to the occasion, will be delivered by local ministers and Chairman of Committee.

Wreaths will he placed at the foot of the Soldiers’ Memorial in the Triangle. The following programme has beeh decided upon in connection with the Anzac Service in the Towns Hall at 2 p.m. on Tuesday:— Verse, National Anthem. ... . Mayor’s address., Prayers, Rev. W. H. Walton. It is provided by statute that Anzac Day will be observed-in all respects as if it were a Sunday. No sporting functions will he permitted, and shops and hotels will be closed. It is important to note that the Police Offences Act, 1908, provides that every person is liable to a fine who on Sunday, in or in view of any public place, trades, works at his trade or calling, • deals, transacts business, or exposes goods for sale, or keeps open any house, store, shop, bar, or other place for the" purpose of trading, dealing, transacting business, or exposing goods for sale therein. Certain necessary public and private services at present allowed to remain open or to be worked are not affected.
