WARDROBE HINTS.
To clean a georgette blouse, pour about one quart, of petrol into a •bowl, dip the required article in and rub* gently for a few minutes. Squeeze, and hang out; when thoroughly dry, iron in the usual way. This method prevents georgette articles from shrinking. Never use petrol near a light. If you have broken stitches in a knitted jumper find the beginning of the break and pull out two or three inches further. Take the end inside the jumper, join wool on, and then with a darning needle go in and out the length, and a bit beyond, of the break. Knot off* antbreturn, making
a blanket stitch or otherwise, according to the pattern. When the petersham of your skirt gets limp and out of shape, rub some ordinary soap rather thickly on the ,-dde that faces the skirt. Iron with a very hot iron, and you will find that the petersham has come up stiller than new. This can be done without the petersham being removed from the skirt.
To mend a torn mackintosh, indirubber oemcnl is required and a piece of strong silk. Smear the under side of the tear and the top of (lie silk with (he cement, place together, and put a weight on the place for some hours. Failing silk, cycle canvas may he used. A coloured or faded blouse or dress can be bleached pure white by boiling in cream of tartar. Put a teaspoonful of cream of tartar to each quart of water. Try a small piece of material first. A better result will be obtained by boiling twice in succession.
