MR. BANKS’ PROPOSAL. At Tuesday night’s meeting of the local School Committee, .Mr Banks, local schoolmaster, said his hobby had been magic lanterns. He had in his possession a lantern and equipment valued at upwards of £SOO. He conceived the idea, many years ago, of using lantern slides at the school as an aid to concentrating the attention of scholars. Visualising the objects or subjects discussed is undoubtedly an aid to .the child not blessed with a retentive memory. The eye assists the mind. Air Banks informed committeemen that the use of the lantern was a great help to children, and he instanced results. He asked the Committee to assist him in the matter of preparing a portion of the building and cost in making the innovation at the school. The Chairman assured the Headmasfer .of the Committee’s assistance and co-operation in the matter and/added that the.school was to be congratulated upon possessing a hiosjfcerfilling’ to provide jsjjglj. a valuable adjunct to promote flic wckfawiof their education.
