THE NEW EDITOR OF “STEAD’S REVIEW.”

Stead’s for March 4th contains an appreciative sketch of the new editor-proprietor, Professor Meredith Atkinson, who is about to leave England to return to Australia, and who intends to take over the active control of the magazine towards the end of April. In a Foreword, sent from England, for the present issue, Professor Atkinson says: — “Little did I dream when I left Australia in August that I should never again see my dear friend, TFenry Stead, and that I should return to occupy his editorial chair, and take over his whole business. The motives which actuated me in finally accepting this drastic change in my career are best realised by an appreciation of the work and character of Henry Stead himself. Everybody knows what a great and unique influence the Review acquired under his control.' Its work in the interests of public trfith and national-honesty during the war was incalculably .important. The virtues of truthfulness and straight dealing with political evil-doers were never more conspicuously exhibited in high-class journalism. . . . •“The policy of the Review, like its name, will remain unchanged. It will stand, above all, for the enlightenment of the adult citizen on all great questions of politics—national and international, economics, and the other larger humanities that serve the deeper needs of searchers after the best in life. The •fullest and most up-to-date information will continue to be gathered from all corners of the earth. Hardhitting against social evils and political abuses will follow the keenest scrutiny of the-actions of those entrusted with the care of the public good. Students of public questions will be kept abreast of the best social literature in the language. Encouragement will be given to all movements of non-partisan character that I aim at social betterment.”
