MANSON AND BARR CUP. ' - ( Nr A rink representing Palmerston North Club visited Foxtop yesterday, and succeeded in wresting the ‘ Cup from the local rink. The green was not in good playing condition, owing to ‘the heavy rain during 1 Tuesday night, the soil being thoroughly soaked with moisture. The visiting rink was skipped by W. Jones, runner-up in the recent Wanganui Tournament, and also included the veteran bowlers Shep. Dixon
and Licingstone, and Wilson as lead. Tile match was hard fought throughout. Foxton lead off with a three/ on the first head, and added another on the second, Palmerston notching two on the third and two on the fourth. - The sixth head
showed the score 5 all; the eighth head 6 all; the twelfth head 9 all, l and the fourteenth head' ll —10 in favour of the visitors. From this on, Palmerston maintained a lead, the'twentieth head showing the scores Palmerston 17, Foxton 14. On the last head Foxton added one K leaving the visitors a win by a margin of two points. Whibley (s) 15 Foxton h’ad successfully defended the trophy on three previous occasions—against Shannon, Levin* and Terrace End —and played a very strenuous game on this occasion, finding the Palmerston team “worthy of their steel” in every re-. A spect, the visitors’ win being accepted as l'ully merited. In the absence of Nye the local rink was agaih skipped by F. Whibley.
A match for the. Nye -Ferns was played yesterday afternoon, the challenging {rink being skipped by Bryant. Tlie holders obtained a substantial lead in the first part of the game, but after they afternoon tea adjournment tlie challengers gradually improved their position, until on the 21st head the scores were even, the extra head played deciding the game in favour of the challengers by one point. Intimation has been received from the Palmerston N.- Centre Secretary to the effect that the Champion of Champions Singles Contest will he held at Palmerston X. on Wednesday next, the Champion Pairs on Wednesday 29th, and the Champion Rinks contest on April sth. Contestants in the Wilford Cup competition t are notified that the v'semi-final games must be completed < by Wednesday next. The following games in the semi-finals have been played so far: —Smith 22 v. Roore 1 23; extra head played ! to decide. : Walton 28 v. Bryant 30.
