BOWLING.
The final round of the Triangular Contest, was played at Shannon yesterday, in ideal weather conditions. The visitors extended the usual hearty welcome by the home club, and a very enjoyable time was spent, the green bping in good playing order, and the ladies providing an ample and tasty afternoon tea. Levin were successful in securing the Shield, Shannon being unfortuin not making a good stand mainly by the failure to Fargher’s rink to come up to their usual performance. Whibley (s) 19 Gunning (s) 18 Gagliardi(s) 3.9 Clements (s) 24 Fargher (s) 10 Pollock (s) 33 At the conclusion of play, Mr Murray, president of the Shannon Club, presented tffffLevin Club with the Shield, congratulating them on theij win, amf saying that although Shannon had been defeated, nevertheless they had enjoyed the day’s play, and trusted that in future years Shannon Club would again be successful in securing the coveted Shield. The purpose of the Triangular contests was amply bourn-out in the inter-club interest it stimulated. Cheers were given for the Levin Club, and for the ladies for providing refreshments. Mr Harris, on behalf of the Levin Club, in accepting the trophy, expressed pleasure at their success, and thanked the Shannon Club for the very enjoyable afternoon they had spent. MrT). Christie implied on behalf of the Foxton Club, and congratulated the Levin Club on their win. Ha also expressed the determination of the Foxton Club to secure the Shield next year.
The Levin holders of the Dixon Cup (Wilson, Rankin, Bull and Clements, jr.) met a Shannon rink (Carr, MeKegg, Murphy and Roach) on Saturday to defend the trophy against the first challenge. The game was a very interesting one, and ended in Levin retaining the cup by 18 points to 14.
