Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1921. POWER BOARD ELECTION.
VERY little interest was taken by electors in yesterday's poll for the election of a representative for the Borough of Foxton on the Horowhenua Hydro-Electric Power Board. About one-third of those entitled to vote exercised the franchise. The reason for this may be indifference to public affairs, or satisfaction with the qualifications of either candidate. It was generally believed that the Mayor would be elected by reason of his active connection with the preliminaries in connection with the constitution of the Board, for which lie is entitled to the best thanks of the community. His defeat came as a surprise to many, and certainly is poor recognition for services rendered. In congratulating Cr. Whibley upon his election, we believe he will recognise the responsibility of the trust reposed in him, and give of his best to keep Foxton’.s requirements in the forefront.
