Speaking to a large assembly of farmers at the Methven land sale, Mr J. R. Brown said that when a big wave washed the lobster on to a rock and then receded, the stupid crustacean just lay and waited there for another big wave to wash it off, or else it perished where it lay. Some farmers were affected in the same way. A boom wave landed them high and dry, and they waited for another billow of prospei'ity to set them affoat again. They had not initiative or energy enough to climb out ancl swim.
