OBITUARY

MRS. MARTHA HURST—AGED 80 YEARS. There passed away at her residence, Thynne Street, on Sunday morning, Mrs Martha Hurst, relict of the iate A. W. Hurst, aged 80 years. The old lady, although somewhat feeble, was about the house on Saturday, and retired as usual on Saturday night. On going into her room on Sunday morning, it was ascertained that deceased had passed away in her sleep. Her sudden death came as a shock to members of the family. The late Mrs Hurst arrived in the Dominion about 47 years ago, and except for a shoi’t residence in Napier, resided for the greater portion of the time in Woodville, where she was well-known and greatly respected. About 14 years ago, together with her late husband, she removed to Foxton, and has resided here ever since. Deceased leaves a family of six daughters (Mrs Groves, Makomako, Mrs F. G. Moore, Pahiatua, Mrs J. Hannah, Foxton, Mrs Q. Wilson, Hunterville, Mrs Rountree, Foxton, Mrs M. Bennett, Mataroa) and five sons (J. Maisey, Palmerston N., Alf. Hurst, Rongotea, David Hurst, Foxton, Joseph Hurst, Mataroa, and Natlianial Hurst, Foxton), 30 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchild-ren to mourn their loss. Mrs John Pinfold, of Ivonini (Pahiatua) is a sister of deceased. The old lady was beloved for her kindly disposition, and although physically feeble, was able to get about each day, and retained all her mental faculties. She had led a strenuous life, and was devoted to her family, who will the memory of a devoted mother. By a strange coincidence, the day of her burial falls on deceased’s eightieth birthday. Messages of sympathy have been received by the bereaved family from various parts of the North Island.

The funeral took place to-day, the services being conducted by the Rev. Mr Minifie.
