Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1922. POWER BOARD ELECTION.

IT has been stated officially that power from the Mangahao hydroelectric works will be turned on at the end of next year. Power Boards to control the installation and supply of current have been constituted throughout the urea to be served, and will come into active being next week. Each Board will act independently, and will arrange its own finances and administrative control. Local bodies within each Board area will collect the rates on behalf of The Board. The* power will be distributed throughout each area, and can be lapped for individual and general use as required. The Boards will be faced with a lot of preliminary work, and it is essential that men of business ability should be elected to control affairs. The vital work has, of course, been done by the Government, but the reticulation of the districts to be served will need careful handling. Foxton is linked up with the Horowhenua Power Board, which includes portion of the Tintt County, the Horowhenua County, the boroughs of Otaki, Levin, Shannon and Foxton, and the Awnlmn riding of the Manawatu County. The Horowhenua County will have three representatives on the Board, the boroughs mentioned and Hull and Manawafu Counties one each. Except for the Horowhenua County and the Foxton Borough, the representatives have been elected unopposed. The Horowhenua County has live candidates from which to select three members, and the Foxton Borough will select its representative from the Mayor (Mr Chryslall) and senior Councillor (Mr F. D. Whibley). Both local candidates have equal claims to recommendation. The Mayor was a member of the Provisional Committee which outlined the district and arranged the preliminaries in connection with the petition. The actual policy work of the Board will commence when constituted, and upon this factor must be based the administrative fitness of the candidates at Wednesday’s poll.
