CARE OF THE FEET.
In hot days, do- not let us forget the army training and its valuable teaching in the matter of feet. Have two pairs of socks in use at the same time. Wear one pair, while the other is hung out to air at home, preferably in the sunshine. Wear the socks on alternate feet; the right sock on Monday must be left sock on Tuesday. The nails must be carefully pared with scissors, not with a knife. Do not cut the nails down at the sides close to the quick, cut them almost straight along the top. Wash the feet every night. The perspiration between the toes is rancid if left; wash it away with water ip which is placed a little permanganate of potassium. Whatever antiseptic is used need not be strong; a very dilute solution is enough to cleanse the skin. Sprinkle a small quantity of fine-powdered boracie acid inside the socks. Wear boots that are wide at the toes; toes need air as much as any other part of the body; toes that are cramped together soon become uncomfortable; the feet swell in hot weather, and make the boots too tight. Paddling in the sea is very comforting to the toes; they are not compressed in tight leather casings, and thev are not hot. '
