Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 1922. HOSPITAL MATRON’S RETIREMENT.
AT Inst nice!mg' of the Palmerston Hospital Board, Miss McLagan, the matron, tendered her resignation, after serving the institution for a period of 23 years. Every one who has been, connected with the institution will learn of the matron’s resignation with sincere regret. .Miss McLagan has been, shall we say, a vital part of the institution from the cottage hospital stage of a quarter of a century ago, to the present splendidly equipped and staffed hospital of to-day —second to none in point of efficiency in the Dominion. A born organiser and disciplinarian, thorough in the discharge of her duties, yet withal a big heart of sympathy for the suffering. Her resignation was feelingly referred to by the chairman, Sir James Wilson, at the last. Board meeting. The latter felt the severance keenly, as he had been associated with the matron in the administration of the hospital during the whole period. The Board decided to grant the matron six months’ leave of absence on full pay, and will consider the granting of an annuity, which is richly deserved.
