Had these been in time, the nominations would have exceeded last year’s by one. Tommy Rot, recently purchased by Mr J. J. Corry, arrived on Thursday.
Bairnsdale, in charge of Trainer R. Eagar, arrived on Friday evening.
P. Mcßreartywill ride Bairnsdale in both hurdle races. Trainers and owners are strongly of the opinion that Pahiatua acceptances, closing on the 19th inst., should' be held over until the day after Foxton meeting. Some twentyfive horses racing in Foxton, and several at. Trentham, appear in the Pahiatua handicaps. These do not race until' the 28th inst., and there should be ample time. A handsome gold-mounted whip, donated by Mrs Walter Kirkland, for the rider of the winner of the Foxton Cup, is on view in Mr R. -Heath’s window. Moutoa Ivanova, Penalty and Liskanar, trained by Mr D. McCauley, were the horses safely removed from the local stables recently destroyed. by fire. Two speciaJ trains each day will run from Palmerston to Foxton; also the Sandon tram will run both days from Pukenui. Acceptances for the local meeting close on Monday, 16th instant, at 8 P-m-
