More Hi an 100 gallons of good, dear oil, ready for lamp use, have been.obtained from a garden well at Bosham, near Ohieester, according to statements by tlit* owner. The well is on the premises of Mr IT. Richardson, grocer, and has been used for water supply for 00 odd years. Ii is brick-lined and 18ft. deep. An intake pipe, which feeds the pump, reaches to within 18in of the bottom. When an ordinary lamp was tilled with this oil it burned steadily for hours. Mr Richardson had supplies from the well stored in a 100gallon tank, a 40-gallon barrel, and other receptacles, by which time the How, of oil showed signs of giving out. Since then, however, the outpnt has been .strengthened. During (be holidays Messrs W. Dick, of Carterton, and W. A. Day, of Greytown, journeyed over the Mount Hector track to Otaki. They were accompanied by several from Wellington and Palmerston North. The party left Woodside on Monday, December 2Gth, and experienced heavy rain both on that day and on Wednesday. They were consequently delayed at one of the camping hpts, After the rain there were two heavy frosts accompanied by ice.
