- The weather during the New Year holidays, although not all that could •be desired from a bowler’s point of view, was sufficiently favourable to allow of very enjoyable pairs tournaments being,held on Monday and Tuesday. The green was .'well prepared for both days’ play, but a stiff easterly breeze made play somewhat uncertain, and a wide variation in the draw of the two “hands.” The play on Monday resulted in a win for Healey and Nye (s) ; the details of the three rounds played (11 heads each) being as follows: — Huntley and F. Whibley (s) 22, v, Stevenson and Roore (s) 4. Jno. Ross and Walker (s) 14, v. Spring and McColl 7. Healey and Nye (s) 12, v. Betty and D. Whibley 5. ’ McColl 11, v: D. Whibley 9. Roore 14, v. On Tuesday three rounds of 15 heads were.played, six pairs competing, and resulted in Healey and Roore (s) wanning in a final with D. Whibley and F. Whibley (s), the game being' very closely contested, the decision remaining in donbt until the last head was played. The details of the pjay are as follows: D. Whibley and F. Whibley 22, v. Yesterday afternoon a challenge match for the Nye Ferns was played under ideal conditions, the green being in perfect order. The result of the contest was a win for the challengers by a substantial margin. The details are as follows: Challengers. Holders. Betty Parkin
