BUTTER PRICES DECLINE.
FURTHER FALL REPORTED.
London. Dec. 29. Free butter continues to decline, - the latest prices being New Zealand 125 s to 130 s per cwt., Australian salted 110 sto 112 s. Owing to the holidays, there has been a slow discharge of cargoes, and only limited quantities were marketed. These were rapidly cleared, as there was a good consumptive demand at the reduced retail prices. Further reductions are probable, and these will stimulate the demand. Already the consumption of margarine has greatly diminished. T{ie trade is anxiously awaiting the Australian and New Zealand Government’s replies to the proposal that the Australian and New Zealand Governments should purchase the British Government’s setoeks at 100 s per cwt. for New Zealand, and 84s for Australian, and hold it till the autumn if necessary. Cheese is quiet; New Zealand about 88s per cwt.
