Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, DECEMB. 31, 1921. “THE YEAR IS DYING—LET IT DIE.”
BEFORE another issue of “The Herald” reaches our readers the 1921 milestone will have been passed, and we will have entered upon the daysm of 1922. A retrospective glance over the past year discloses wonderful happenings within the Empire, which have for their objective a tightening of the bonds of kinship, and a better understanding alround. Internationally, the foundations of a lasting peace have been laid. There have been commercial slumps and industrial unrest —the aftermath of the great war —hvhicli it is sincerely hoped, will be satisfactorily adjusted in the- near future. Within our own Dominion we have much to be thankful for, and things are not so black as some pessimists would have us believe. During the war period, and after, we steered recklessly on the tide of abnormal prosperity. We are now battling in the backwash. But the sun will continue to shine, and the set-back in material things are temporary, and can be faced with the same old determination which ultimately wins through. Our happiness does not reach its fullness in mere money-grubbing, and it will do some of the pessimists good to dip a little deeper into their accumulated hordes. Our best wish is that Divine Providence will vouchsafe to all A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
