PLANT FOR MANGAHAO.
BTG TENDERS ACCEPTED FROM
BRITISH FT RMS
Tenders for the supply of about £IOO,OOO worth of plant for Mongolian hydro-electric works have been accepted by the Government, and the successful tenderer in each ease is a British firm. Seven 4,000 k.v.n. transformers of British manufacture are to be purchased from A. D. Riley and Co., at a cost of £16,574; three" 6.450 b.li.p. (brake horse-power), and two 3,250 b.li.p. waterwheels from Boving and Co., at a cost of £23,705; and three 6,000 k.v.n. and two 3,000 k.V.n. generators from the Metropolitnn-Vickers Company, at a cost of £54,068. There were eleven tenderers for the first contract, twelve for the second, and eight for the third.
The plant mentioned is the bulk of the power-house machinery for Mangahao. It is all to be deliveied within the next fifteen months. Its receipt, as arranged, within this period, will fit in with the announced intention of the Public Works Minister to have the Mangahao source of supply completed if possible bv the end of 1923.
Among the tenderers were American and Swedish firms, flic Go\ernment’s choice of British manufacturers, in the face of the gieat experience which the Americans and the Swedes have had in the development of hvdro-eleetric power may be taken as a strong expression of faith in the quality of British workmanship.
The plant referred to above is not all that the Governmeut invited tenders for. Tenders for' other machinery are still under consideration. The accepted tenders were approved by Cabinet at a special meeting during the past week-end.
