TREATMENT OF DANDRUFF.
There are so many causes for I lie thinning of the hair that it is not always easy to tell whal is to blame in individual eases. It may be caused by moistness or excessive greasiness, of course , and if this is excessive, try llie following dry wash daily:—Powered bicarbonate of soda foz.; eau de Cologne, 1 fluid ounce; rectified spirit; 2 fluid ounces; tincture of chochineal, J of a fluid ounce; distilled water, 16oz. In a case where the hair refuses to grow, the sooner I lie (rouble is at-
tended to the greater the chance of success. The head should be washed say, once a week, with extract of quillaia, or a wliipped-np egg, and always thoroughly dried after washing. If hard and brittle, apply a mixture of one part lanoline and 16 parts sesame oil. Tf baldness is definitely appearing, bay rum should be rubbed in daily. A pomade of 1 drachm tannin,/) drachms lanoline, and 2 drachms sesame oil is good for checking the loss of hair. Probably nothing, however, is so disastrous to the hair as dandruff. Treatments, hair-tonics and hair-re-storers arc all 'useless unless the head is first freed from dandruff, or, in other words, unless the head is first pul into a condition to receive benefit from I belli. Dandruff is a sworn foe to health and beautiful hair. Continuous falling, brittle and faded lock's, and premature greyness are in countless cases entirely due to |lie dandruff. This being cured, the hair without further treatment becomes strong, thick and vigorous, and fading and greyness arc arrested. To rid the hair of dandruff, get a chemist to make up this special ointment: —Lanoline, 1 foz.; salicylic acid. 12gr.; precipitated sulphur, I dr. Every night rub this freely into the scalp, and every morning with a fine tooth comb carefully remove all the loosened scales. A preparaton of one ounce of sulphur and one quart of water, repeatedly used during intervals of a few hours, will also cure dandruff. If the head is saturated every morning with the liquid, in a few weeks every trace of dandruff will lie removed from the scalp, and the hair will become soft and glossy.
