THE FAMINE IN RUSSIA.
APPEAL TO THE SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —As the Commissioner of the Salvation Army for New Zealand has announced in the last issue of the War Cry (Dec. 10th, 1921) that he is prepared to receive donations to aid sufferers from the famine in Russia, I beg to suggest that the Scholars of bur public and private day schools should, TO-MORROW, take sixpence each to his or her teacher, to be handed over to the local Salvation Army officer, or Mayor, for the Russian Famine Fund. In America, England and Australia collections have been taken up, and why not in New Zealand, especially as the need is terrible? Cold winter reigns over Russia at this moment. Reader, please do your best. Gifts now are timely, as ii is near to Christmas, the birthday of the great Christ who taught us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, inasmuch, etc., etc. Reader, are not these charity opportunities a splendid means to counteract selfishness in our children? —I am, etc.,
A COLONIAL. P.S.—As there are about 200,000 scholars, in our schools, (id from each scholar would yield £5,000 for the Famine Fund. —A.C.
