METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL

ANNIVERSARY CONCERT,

The above anniversary concert and prize-giving was held in the new social hall last evening. The building was crowded to the doors with an appreciative audience. The children were effectively grouped on the stage. The programme opened with a pianoforte solo by Miss Honore, followed by the singing of a march hymn by the children with the stage curtains closed. With the opening bars of the Grand March, the screens opened, revealing the children, some eighteen, carrying fancy paper wands with streamers, and who executed a complicated and graceful Grand March. The opening scene being an appropriate introduction to the main programme. Recitations. were given by Joan Cowley, Mona Moore (2), Decima Brown, El vie Moore, and Miss Doris Pullan. A well rendered piano duet by Misses Nina Scadden and Rene Hinds. An amusing item was a duet “The Two Dolls,” by Margaret Staff and Mona Moore. A vocal duet, “Sunset Free,” was sweetly sung by Dulcie and Margaret Staff. A song, “.Togging Along the Highway” (in costume), by Nina Scadden, was well received. The tramp action to the song added to its effect. Two brief children’s dialogues, “Won’t You come and Play with Me,” and “A Case of Mistaken Identity,” were acted most naturally by the children in their parts. A rather lengthy dialogue, “Shadows of the Future,” containing a timely message on peace arid war, was also well carried out. Action songs were: “Ring, Bells, Ring,” “I Don’t. Want, to Play in Your Yard,” “Market and “Je.-ns Buis TJs Shine.” In this last piece three tiny tots, carrying candle-sticks and candles burning, and attired in “nighties,” created much amusement. Several anniversary hymns were interspersed, and the children and choir were heard to advantage under the baton of Mr Betty. Accompaniment's were played by Miss ITonore, Mrs Bullard, and Miss Chalk. The whole programme reflected great credit upon Mrs Chalk and her assistants, Messrs Pullan and Chalk. At the close of.the programme Mr Huntley (superintendent) presented the prizes to the children. Mr Huntley thanked Mr Betty for training the scholars, Mrs Chalk and assistants for concert, programme, Miss Honoro as organist, ladies for decorating the church and for refreshments, Mrs Walls for use of piano free of charge, and all others assisting. The Rev. L. Minitie handed two special prizes, given by a visitor, to the youngest girl and boy singers in the anniversary, Don Chrysiall and Mona Moore. Mr Minifie also asked the audience to show appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Huntley and his tail of teachers to the school. Refreshments were provided by the ladies, and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
