TO NORTH AUCKLAND

The Governor-General continued his public functions in Dargjiville to-day. In the morning he addressed the children of the district. lie left later for Kauri Park, where over two thousand people had assembled to see the formal handing over of the park to the Government as a national park. The deeds of the park, comprising nearly a thousand acres of beautiful kauri forests, were handed over to the Gov-ernor-General by Mr James Trounson, the donor, Sir Francis Bell receiving the gift on behalf of the Government. The proceedings were very enthusiastic, and in the course of stirring addresses the GovernorGeneral, Sir Francis Bell, Hon. Mitchelson, Messrs G. Fowlds, and A. E. Harding, referred to the munificent gift of the donor to the people of the Dominion. The forest is recognised as one of the wonders of the Dominion, and with improved facilities for reaching it, will be a source of great attraction for tourists. Luncheon was served to the guests, who had assembled from all
parts of the Dominion, under a huge kauri tree, over forty feet in circumference. At the request of the Government, the park will he known as (he Trounson Kauri Park, in honour of the donor, who is one of the oldest and most respected residents of the North Auckland district.
