“FADS AND FASHIONS.”
Mr John Raymond’s company appearing under the title of “Fads and Fashions,” gave, a very attractive entertainment in the Town Hall last night. The entire programme was of a high order, and merited much hotter patro’nage than was accorded the company. Mr Basil Dean, at the piano, opened the performance with a finished overture, and the whole of the numbers following were heartily received, double encores being the order of the evening. It would ho a hard matter to discriminate between the merits, of the various items, but comment might he made on one or two items that were somewhat out of the ordinary. For instance, Miss Billie Green sang sweetly, with true Native accent, and being attired in Maori costume, u Maori song, which was as fine as one could wish to hear, while later in (he programme the same performer rendered a Maori haka in fine stile, receiving a gi’eat ovation for each turn. Mr Noho Toki, dressed in Maori costume; sang “When You are There,” which item pleased the audience greatly. It must be said that every item was a star, and the programme well selected, bright, and often very amusing, the work of the comedian, Mr Frank Perryn, being good. The costuming of the company was also a feature of the entertainment. Mr Raymond intimated that he would pay Foxton a return visit later, when we are sure the company will he accorded the patronage it de-
serves.
