ALL SAINTS’ BAZAAR.
The above bazaar, opened by l lie Governor-General in the Town Hall yesterday, was a great success. The interior of the ball has never before presented such a fine spectacle in the way of artistic decoration. The stalls were arranged in the form of two hig battleships, 38 feet long, and a torpedo boat and submarine. AAflioever was responsible for I lie idea and labour are deserving of the highest praise. The effect was splendid. The stall-holders were in navy costume, and ' attached to each stall were pretty little girls attired as butterflies. Patrons of the Bazaar were invited to select a queen from these little fairy-like people, with the following result: — Miss Betty Hunt (flower stall), 1431 votes; Miss Dorothy Moorhouse, 696; Miss Elsie Barber, 634; Miss Joyce Freeman 347; Miss Hazel Owen, 263; Miss Edith Hensky, 246; Miss Miriam Symons, 186. The winner was presented with a box of chocolates, and each unsuccessful candidate with a little handkerchief. The votes represented the sum of £ls.
Financially the Bazaar was a great success, which must have been very gratifying to the splendid body of workers who laboured so abundantly with that end in view. The stalls and their respective staffs were as follows: — Cake Stall. — Mesdames Moorhouse, Au.stin-Johnston, Misses B. Robinson and E. King. Butterfly, Dorothy Moorhouse.
. Guild Stall. —Mesdames Barber, Easton, W. Robinson, Christie, Symons, East, Misses Nye and Crow. Butterfly, Miss E. Barber. Flower Stall. —Mesdames F. Shooting Gallery.—Mr H. Frankland.
The beautiful stage effect was the result of the capable energies of Mesdames Freeman and Hunt, and Miss Williams. The erection of the battleships occupied the attention of a big body of male workers, including members of the Boys’ Club. Mr IV J. Jack rendered tremendous service. His professional skill, artistic taste, and organising ability were freely given. Squads under Messrs Christie and Moorhouse worked like machinery, with'the result that the enormous amount of work way completed in the very short time at their disposal, and everything was “all clear” for the ladies when they arrived with their merchandise. MrS Percy Easton (hon. sec.), with the assistance of Mr Poole, was able to announce the amount of the total receipts well before midnight.
