PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
The secretary of the Manawatu Patriotic Society (which has just adopted a scheme for the distribution of a considerable portion of its funds to Manawatu soldiers) stated at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Society that a movement was afoot to have the funds of the smaller societies pooled with the larger societies. This was, no doubt, in accordance with the policy of the Advisory Board of the New Zealand War Relief Association. If carried into effect, it would probably mean that the Foxton, Levin and Feilding societies’ funds would be pooled with the Palmerston North funds, and worked from an imprest account. The secretary said lie had communicated with Mr Hope Gibbons, the Society’s representative on the Board, in the mutter, and he had replied to the effect that he intended to visit Palmerston North, and would then discuss the subject with the Society’s executive. So far, Mr Gibbons had not come lo Palmerston North. It was probable that the next thing the Society would have would be a request to take over the funds of the small societies mentioned.
