At an inquest on the child Allen, aged (if years, who was frilled by being struck by a motor car on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 2nd, the police handed in a statement by Morgan Davies, farmer, residing at Napier, saying that he had

He remembered no more till lie reached Hastings and transacted some business. He had a hazy recollection of stopping at Greenmeadows. The car would not start, and a friend drove him to Napier. He saw an account in the papers, and probably felt it was too late. On Friday, November 4th, l\e began to realise, and went to a solicitor, who was away for the day. He spent another sleepless night, and could not face it. Whether from shock, or 'wjiaf, lie did not know what made him keep going. A charge of manslaughter was laid against accused, and lie was remanded to Napier on Monday, November 141 li. Bail was allowed in £SOO and two sureties of £250. Davies is a married man, with four children, and is in good circumstances. The affair lias caused great interest in the district.
