BOROUGH RESERVES.

REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.

At the last Council meeting v the Beautifying Society made a request for financial assistance in carrying out maintenance work. The Mayor stated that the Council could only draw on the Reserves account for such expenditure, and at present this fund was at debit. We obtained a detailed account of this fund from the Town Clerk, which will be interesting, not only to the Beautifying Society, but to the public. The revenue derived from the borough reserves during the financial year 1920-1921 was £195 12s fid, to which must be added the credit balance at the beginning of the year, £4O 3s lid, and a donation of £4 18s sd. The total reeeipts were £240 14s lOd. The items of expenditure were as follows: —Fencing ' Easton Park, £96 13s fid ornamental Gateway, £124 7s Sd; half-cost of piping boundary drain, £7l 38s 2d; mowing hay, £2 10s; ploughing, £3 10s; plan of Park, £3 3s; labour, £l2 19s 8d; repairing windmill, £7 18s fid; advertising, £1 10s; fencing target reserve, £3B 11s Id; treeplanting, £57 12s lid; seats for Triangle, £5 9s 2d; proportion salaries, £3O; the total expenditure .on reserves amounting to £456 3s Bd, leaving a debit balance at the 31st March, 1921, of £215 8s lOd. From the Ist April lo 29th October, 1921, receipts amount to £lO7 (is Bd, while expenditure for the same period totals £24 18s Id, of which £lB lbs lOd represents frees planted in Target Reserve. The balance in debit to-day is £133 0s 3d. The anticipated revenue for the balance of (lie year is £7l 16s lid, which will reduce the debit balance to £6l 3s Id, lmt this will he increased when the new rubbish depot is fenced, and provision made for necessary repairs, etc.
