FIRE IN FLAX SWAMP.

AT POROUTAWHAO

The reflection of a big fire was noticed in the direction of Poroutawhao last evening. It was subsequently ascertained that a fire was raging in Messrs Ross, Rough and Co.’s flax swamp at Poroutawhao. A number of the firm’s employees proceeded to the swamp, and managed to save the flax area, after a very strenuous time. Portion of the tramway was destroyed, but we are informed that very little damage was done to the flax. The cause of the fire is a mystery.
