Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1921. IMPROVING THE SEASIDE.
THE Chamber of: Commerce is to be commended for its endeavour to urge upon the governing authority the improvement- of the roadway giving access to the river foreshore at the seaside. The popularising of the seaside resort in whatever way adds to Foxton’s prosperity. The more people attracted to the seaside adds to local prosperity, apart from the pleasure and health it affords visitors. While asking for improved reading, the Chamber must not. overlook the large sum of money expended by the County Council in providing a metalled road practically to the water’s edge. The cutting giving access to the river foreshore is dangerous, and if the road was continued in a straight line to avoid the cutting, the drifting sand would probably be a greater nuisance to tradio. W'eßelieve a better alternative, and one that would get over the sand-drift obstacle, would be to form a short piece of road leading from the present road, a few chains from the corner, and to come out near the hall. There would be ample room at this terminus to park the cars without encumbering the river foreshore, and they would be well a way from high-water mark. This work would not cost a great deal, and there is no doubt the lease-holders would subscribe a fair proportion of the cost. We pass this suggestion on to the County Council for its consideration. In any case, such minor deviation would remove danger to pedestrians and tratlic at the cutting.
