SEX EDUCATION.
THE GOVERNMENT INTENTION
Mr W. H. Field asked the Minister of Education last week whether he will without delay take effective steps to see that plain instruction on sexual subjects is imparted in our schools by specially qualified persons, so that all boys and girls may be solemnly warned of the grave dangers resulting from the contraction of habits which may end in their physical, mental and moral ruin.
The lion. Mr Parr replied: The question of what instruction in sexual hygiene should be given in schools has been engaging the attention of educationists for some time, and there is no doubt that something must be done. Even among enthusiastic advocates of such instruction there is extreme divergence of opinion about how and by whom the instruction should be given. I may stale, however, that, arrangements are now well under way for a step forward in this difficult matter, and it is hoped thereby materially to assist young people in forming better .ideals of life and conduct in the directions mentioned.
