INVERCARGILL TO AUCKLAND.

Auckland, Oct,. 25. The New Zealand Aero Transport Company’s D.II. ( J aeroplane, piloted' by Air J. G. Mercer, with Mr W r . IT. P. Fleming, of Gore, and Mr L. Wiglev, of Timaru, as passengers, arrived at (i.S p.m. from Invercargill. The trip from Trentham to Auckland occupied 3hr. 30miii. actual flying. Leaving Trent ham at 1.52 o’clock, the aeroplane flew over Otaki and Fcilding, over Wanganui, thence to Hawera, arriving at the latter place at 3.25 o’clock, From the latter place the machine followed the West Coast, line.

Good conditions prevailed throughout all the North Island. The altitude averaged was about 4,000 ft., and the total petrol consumption from Invercargill was 94 gallons. Mr Wigley (managing director of the New Zealand Aero Transport Company) is of the opinion that it is quite feasible to run a daily passenger service from the Bluff to A uckland.

It was intended to have down straight through in one day, hut the flight was interrupted at Timaru on Monday on account of unfavourable weather reports. The machine left Timaru at 8 o’clock yesterday morning, passed Ashburton at 8.29, Christchurch at 8'.58, Sir George Clifford’s property at 9.30, and arrived at Kaikoura at 9.55. After filling it with petrol, the flight was resumed at 11.5. Blenheim was crossed at a height of G,oooft., at 11.50, and the coast was passed atTioon. It took only eight minutes to cross Cook Strait, The machine passed over Wellington at 12.15, and landed at Trentham ten minutes later. c The total flying time from Invercargill to Trentham was, roughly, 3hr. 20min. On landing at Trentham, the machine was met by Mr A. 11. Adams (local representative of the company), Captain Wilkes (as secretary of the Air Board), Mr D. C. Bates (Dominion Meteorologist), and Mr A. Markham (Secretary to the Post Office). The party had lunch at Trentham while the petrol tanks were refilled, and the machine promptly started for Auckland via Hawera. . -
