CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —Will you allow a woman to say a few words on the subject of “Let Foxton Prosper.” So far as trade is concerned, I agree' with you that Foxton tradespeople ‘ can sell cheaper than tradespeople in the bigger towns. But do they? Shop rents are cheaper in Foxton than in the larger towns, and so are wages, _and now the steamer is making regular trips, freight is cheaper than by rail, Working people cannot afford to pay 2d mojjc on this and 4d more on that, to say nothing of other lines I could mention, for the sake of letting Foxton prosper. People are not such fools as to go outside for goods if they can purchase them as cheap in Foxton. ' But I can prove to you that it pays to buy many things outside of Foxton, and who’s to blame? Instead of a Retailers’ Association, the women should . wake up and form a protection society. There are other things I have spoken to other women about, such as a cottage hospital,' a high school, and rest room for women. The Borough Council and School Committee want new blood and a little life put into them, and this can be done by women taking an active part in these affairs, and then Foxton will prosper. Thanking you in anticipation,—Yours, etc.,
WOMAN. [WE respectfully suggest that our correspondent invite members of the various bodies to meet her in conference, and partake collective inspiration from such wisdom.—Ed.H.]
