RACING CLUBS’ RESPONSIBILITY.
VALUE OF FUR COAT.
A judgment of considerable interest to racing clubs was given by Mr. W. Page, .S.M., at Wellington last week. Dliss Symons sued the Wellington Racing Club for the value of a fur coat handed in at the ladies’ cloak room. A number check was given for it, hut the coat was not forthcoming when demanded. The defence was that reasonable care was taken, and the public notified that the club would not be responsible for loss. Mr Page, however, held it was the club’s duty to safeguard the plaintiff’s property, and as this had not been done he awarded her £4O damages.
NOTICE OF APPEAL,
Notice of appeal has been given.
In giving notice of appeal, Mr H. F. O’Leary said that the case was one of extreme importance to the Racing Club.
