A FUNERAL REHEARSED
ECCENTRIC MAN’S ACTION
A sensation lias been caused in Riaclios, Portugal, by Manuel Simoes Serodio, who rehearsed his own funeral.
Serodio, a bachelor of 04, has lived in Riachos for over 50 years, and is an eccentric. He was in Lisbon at the burial of the Unknown Soldier, and was much impressed by what he saw, especially by the endless .procession through the streets. When he returned to Riachos he took with him a magnificent mahogany coffin. This he hardly let out of his sight, and ouee in his house it was placed beside his bed.
The idea that he could not be present as a spectator at his own funeral had long weighed on his mind, and the purchase of the coffin was but the first step to carrying out a plan suggested by the recent ceremonies in Lisbon. He sent out invitations to his funeral, and on the appointed day, with great pomp and solemnity, the empty coffin was borne to his family tomb in-the town cemetery. An imposing procession followed his “body” to the place of burial, the town band playing meanwhile music selected by Serodio, ranging from a slow march to popular airs,
