Few men who have attained or passed the allotted span of life are worried by domestic troubles; at any rate, it is seldom that they are expected, or culled upon, to provide their life partners with maintenance, says the Post. There was an exception in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, however. An old man, who has been making his way in the world for over 80 years, was the defendant in a maintenance case, the complainant being his second wife. The old man explained that he was receiving a. pension of 30s, out of which sum he had to pay 25s for board. The Magistrate evidently thought that 5s a week was not top great a sum for the old man to enjoy, and he accordingly made no order.
