SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the local State School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Geo. Coley, Jno. Ross, P. Robinson, C. Pearson, F. D. Wkibley, and the acting head teacher (Mr Broad). Apologies for absence were tendered on behalf of Messrs Stevenson, Nye and Perreau. It was decided to insure the old school residence. A number of accounts were scrutinised and passed
for payment. The head teacher presented an account of £3 3s 0d for an attendance banner, £2 7s Gd of which had been subscribed and collected by Mrs Moore from ex-pupils. The committeemen present donated the
balance. The head master reported that several members of the stall had been absent on account of sickness. During the past month the school had been visited by Nurse Wise, Dr. Chinn, and Inspectors Crawford, Adams and Ryder, the Health Officer, and Mr Lange, supervisor of Agriculture. As a consequence of the visits and staff sickness, the regular work of the school had been much interrupted, and at times disorganised. Several minor repairs were referred to, and attention to same •authorised. An appeal for funds from the Church Army was left in the hands of the head master. The head master also reported that tooth-brush drill is becoming more popular among the children, which led one committeeman to remark that he preferred his child to do this exercise at home. Messrs Pearson and Perreau were appointed visitors for the month.
