A GRAVE CHARGE
Il is some years since Parliament was enlivened with anything in the nature of a scandal charge,.and a demand for an jnquiry. Such a charge was made by Mr 11. Masters on Thursday. He stated that an agreement had been made between two cement companies- and the Golden Bay Cement Company, that the latter should close its works and be paid £15,000 a year. This, Mr Masters argued, was an agreement in restraint of trade, and he alleged that the Board of Trade was aware of it, nd took no action. He stated specifically that he did not charge any member of the Government with being personally interested. This was the principal feature of Thursday’s debate on the Addrcss-in-Reply. Mr Masters had evidently prepared his case carefully, and made the most of it. The Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Nosworthy), who spoke afterwards, could not, of course, deal with these charges, which did not concern his own Departments.—Post.
