WATER ANDDRAINAGE WORKS.

The engineers, Messrs Glimie and Son., reported as follows at last night’s Council meeting re the water and drainage-works: — “Two trial sinkings have been put down on the alternative water tower site at the south-east, corner of the reserve, these indicating that the hill is composed of pure driven sand, and that no iron sand strata exists. The site of the engine house and collecting reservoir have been laid out, and Mr Read has made a start

to put in the engine foundation, to be readiness to set the engine on its arrival from Paten. For construcof concrete work and collecting tank, the requisite steel and cement have been obtained from Wellington ex s.s. Kennedy.”
