VALEDICTORY
Mrs and Miss Claris were entertained at a social by members of the Presbyterian Church in the schoolroom on Thursday night, and were the recipients of substantial purses as tokens of appreciation and as(eein from the congregation. The minister, Rev. Thos. Holliday, presided, and at a suitable juncture made the presentations, and in doing so referred to the splendid and whole-hearted service rendered by Mrs Claris as organist for many \ ears, and Miss Claris as a Sabbath school teacher. Mr Claris, prior to his departure for Wellington, and whom the guests were about to join, had also been a valued church official. The congregation regretted the family’s departure from Foxton, but they carried away with them the best wishes for their future happiness and prosperity. During the interval items were contributed by Captain Tong, Misses Patterson (2), Joyce Claris, and Mrs Patterson. The lady members of the congregation provided a tasty supper, and a very happy gathering concluded with musical honours.
