RAILWAYS ACCOUNT
PROFIT GIVES WAY TO LOSS
The railway working account for (he period from Ist April to 20th August shows a loss of £47,330, whereas for the same period last year there was a profit of £391,441. Revenue for the period amounted to £2,502,553,, and the expenditure totalled £2,(109,883.
Compared with last year, the revenue has increased by about 5? per cent., but the increase in expenditure is equal to about 28 per cent. For the corresponding period of 1920, the revenue amounted to £2,423,038, and the expenditure to £2.031.597.
