BAKERS’ UNIONS
CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH.
Christchurch, Sept. 22,
The conference of bakers’ unions 10-day resolved: —“That the time has arrived when the compulsory -•
installation of dough machines should be given effeetjo when the output exceeds 400 21b. loaves daily.” A deputation was appointed to meet the Minister of Labour in Wellington to place before him the questions of daylight baking and amendment of the Factories Ael to provide for a 44 hour week.
It was decided that the next conference of the Federated Bakers and Pastrycooks be held in Wellington, the headquarters of the federation to remain in Christchurch in the meantime.
A remit proposing that the unions should cancel their registration under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act was negatived.
