MANGAHAO HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.
FOUNDATIONS FOR DAMS,
The Mangahao hydro-electric, scheme was the subject of comment by Mr G. Mitchell, M.P., in Wellington this week. He said further investigation had proved that the difficulty in connection with the foundation of the dams had been solved, and plans were now being prepared. “The Mangahao dam will be much more costly tjjan was formerly estimated, but there will be no difficulty in completing the dams in 1923,” he added. Tenders for the pipe line close in November, and with the fall in the price of steel, together with the slackness in trade, it is expected that several hundreds of pounds will be saved on'former tenders for this work, and that there will be no delay in delivery. The survey of the main line is now- in hand. Generally reviewing the position, any delay in preparation is more likely to be with the power boards than with the Public Works Department.”
