ROXBOROUGH STILL AT LARGE.
It is believed that Charles Henry Koxborough, the prisoner who escaped from custody, at Palmerston North last Tuesday, is in hiding somewhere in the vicinity of the Tokomaru tlax swamps, though if is scarcely to be expected that, after the recent heavy rains, he will be able to remain in that locality, says the Standard. 'Pile police do not believe he lias any friends in the district, and are naturally watching all possible avenues of escape. It has been rumoured that Koxborough was observed near the swamp by Constable McGregor, of Shannon, and was pursued by him, but made his escape amongst the cover of the Max; also that he stole a motor cycle from a settler’s house, and on being pursued in a motor car abandoned the machine and again disappeared into the swamp; while another rumour is to the effect that a man answering to the description of the escapee obtained food at a farmhouse, and that on his departure a considerable sum of money was found to be missing. The police, however, deny the accuracy of the first rumour, and state they knownothing of the others. It is evident that the man is familiar with Shannon and its neighbourhood, for the suitcase and contents, which he was originally charged with stealing, and on which charge he was arrested near Dannevirke, are the property of the Rev. Abbott, Anglican vicar of Shannon. Koxborough, it is stated, was formerly employed in the Tokomaru district, which would account for his knowledge of the swamps, and it is possible in such case that he has information which would enable him to supply himself with food over the past week. Charles Henry Koxborough, the prisoner who escaped from police custody at Palmerston North last Tuesday, is still at large. Ilis description which has been circulated throughout the country states that he is a man of medium build, sft. Tin. in height, and 20 years of age, clean shaven, and with a scar on his upper lip, his hair being light brown and his eyes grey. Another peculiarity which may serve to identify him is that the tip of the middle finger of his left hand is missing.
