Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, SEPTEMB. 17, 1921. METAL BY WEIGHT OR MEASUREMENT.
Cr. COLEY has given notice to again move at next Council meeting “that all metal supplied to (he Council be paid for according to Government weighbridge certificates calculated as per standard weights. ’’ A similar motion moved by Cr. Coley at last meeting was almost unanimously defeated. Cr. Coley’s contention is that the present system of purchasing metal at tier square yard or truck, results in a loss to the Council, which would be obviated if a standard weight Was adopted. The road foreman, upon whom responsibility rests as to quantities delivered to the Council, is satisfied with the existing method. IT, however, Cr. Coley can devise a standard of weight or measurement which will work more equitably, taking into account density and moisture, then his niptior\should receive careful consideration, but a hard and fast rule on tips may create a metal famineso far as Foxton is concerned.
