ROYAL PICTURES
When the famous stage play, “The Sign of the Rose,” was adapted to the screen under the title of “An Alien,” the newspaper criticisms were remarkably unanimous in the praise of the picture. The New York Times said: “The film is of the sort that grips the heartstrings. Mr Behan's work is of that vividly expressive sort that is so graphically effective on the screen.” Other papers referred in strong terms to the masterly performance of Mr Behan, and to the excellent character of the picture. The New York Sun states that “An Alien” has a real gripping human interest —it’s a story that makes you laugh through the tears, and brings a lump in the throat. This picture will be shown to-night, and in addition a comedy, “Too Many Tenants,” will be screened. On Friday, one of the most impressive and absorbing photoplay productions ever shown at the Royal will be screened: “Neglected Wives.” This is a screen adaptation from the famous melodrama, “Why Women Sin,” and features the popular screen star, Anne Luther, supported by a brilliant: cast, including such well-known favourites as Claire Whitney, Charles Gerard and F. J. KadclilTe. “Neglected Wives” is a fascinating and absorbing story of intrigue, love, life and adventure. A great Christy comedy, “Seven Bald Pales,” will be in the same programme.
